Seydou Cissé graduated from the Fresnoy-Studio National des Arts Contemporains and the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers in Bamako. Attentive to issues raised by traditional African society and the mysteries related to the occult sciences, his work places nature and the practices used by humans to connect with the mystical world at its center. Through the exploration of various media, such as video, painting, sculpture, photography, and installations, he addresses taboos or contentious social issues in Africa by (re)playing with the codes of African cinema. Following Taamaden (IDFA – VISION DU REEL), his latest film Garibou blends fiction and animation to explore the imagination of a talibé child, also known as a garibou, which helps him endure the intolerable living conditions imposed on him by a Moualim (Quranic teacher).
